Bio
A multidisciplinary artist working across code, images, sound, and conceptual futures. Vandalizing the blockchain since 2013, dxxmsdxy is drawn to the ways relation becomes identity, story becomes reality, and an object acquires meaning.
Building on the web since age ten, dxxmsdxy has worked largely out of view: contributing to pre-launch Ethereum, pioneering web3 design patterns, and straining Ordinals from its debut. Their experience as an artist, inventor, and founder informs a growing urgency to build compelling conceptual bridges to tomorrow. RARE and the Directory offer one route into that convergence, drawing threads of crypto-culture and decentralization toward a shared question: dare we rewrite the past to claim authorship over the future?

Their work draws on a long history in software development, product design, street art, illustration, music, and speculative storytelling, driven by an all-consuming curiosity about the nature of experience, the function of symbols, the patterns that minds like ours instinctively return to, and the unseen dynamics that give rise to that which appears.
Much of their work concerns the construction of identities and worlds: the symbolic patterns through which a self becomes recognizable, the ontologies that make a world intelligible, and the dreams, beliefs, and stories through which it is inhabited. These are also questions of agency: who defines the structures, whose experiences they accommodate, and how they might be recursively reinterpreted.

Within this wider practice, RARE engages crypto’s own histories and conventions through protocol pop art. A token minted in 2014 acquires new artwork and retroactively claims artistic precedence over RAREPEPE. If age confers value, what of the older asset? The chronology remains immutable. RARE protests: the token is the art. Homage, remastering, and invented prehistory form one inaugural statement within the culture they reinterpret.
The technical work articulates a format for onchain artwork and digital artifacts within Bitcoin’s constraints, pairing Counterparty assets as units of commerce with the recursive capabilities of Ordinals and the expressive range of SVG, code, and viewer participation. Presentation, provenance, and transaction become parts of the same composition.

The edition design offers a choice between retaining a fungible token and exchanging it through standing DEX trades for one of 300 distinct 1/1s. Participation, hesitation, or refusal can each enter the work, leaving taste, uncertainty, covetousness, and the appeal of similarity or difference in play. Commerce becomes a material, and the work participates in the desires it examines.
RARE’s continuity lies in its Counterparty namespace, leaving future works free to move beyond the imagery and concerns of this first expression. Elsewhere, dxxmsdxy continues to develop experiments on and offchain, attentive to AI, social currents, and the memetic, political, and economic systems through which our potential futures endlessly manifest and dissolve. The impulse is to make those futures intelligible, interesting, and open to participation; perhaps even help uncover futures we might want to actually bring into being and inhabit.
